10K Training: Week 3

This was week 3 of my 10K training plan, and it was a doozie. This was the second week of our Iowa pilgrimage, and I came down with a stomach bug that put me out of commission for about three days. I won't go into detail, but I assure you that running was the furthest thing from my mind. I did manage to get most of the scheduled miles for the week, but not in any semblance of how they were scheduled.
Tuesday: 3 miles
Thursday: 4 miles
Saturday: 2 miles
Sunday: 5 miles
Total: 14 miles
Monday: 5 miles
Sunday: 6 miles
Total: 11 miles
Monday's run was a lot of fun. I ventured out on a gravel road near my hometown. About a mile in a farm dog chased after me. I was like the passing truck that he FINALLY caught! He didn't quite know what to do, so he just kept tagging along. He would run a ways in front of me and then stop to see if I was still coming (this, apparently, is the same thing my cohorts at the group run do for me). He would run through the ditches, chasing every butterfly and grasshopper. He was with me for about three of my five miles, but I'd be the ran a good four miles with all of his extra adventures.
I've never owned a dog, but I understand the appeal, especially if that dog is one that enjoys a good run down a gravel road in the Iowa summertime.
